Practical Information
Traveling to Paris
By Train
Paris has excellent high-speed rail connections:
- Gare du Nord – for Eurostar (London) and Thalys (Brussels, Amsterdam)
- Gare de Lyon, Gare Montparnasse, and Gare de l’Est serve cities across France and Europe.
By Plane
Paris is served by three international airports:
- Charles de Gaulle (CDG) – the main international hub, 30 km from the city center.
- Orly (ORY) – mostly for European and domestic flights, 20 km from central Paris.
- Beauvais (BVA) – a budget-friendly option, located 80 km away (popular with low-cost airlines).
From the airports, you can reach the city by train (RER), bus, taxi, or shuttle services.
By Car
If you are driving, be prepared for traffic and limited parking. Public transport is usually a better option once you are in Paris.
Local Transport
Once in Paris, getting around is easy:
- metro – fast and reliable, with 16 lines covering the city
- RER trains – ideal for reaching the suburbs and major landmarks (like Versailles or Disneyland Paris)
- buses & trams – a good way to see the city above ground
- walking – many of Paris’s sights are within walking distance of each other
